Greetings from sunny South Africa |
|
Hi everyone
Lourens here. You can pronounce it like "Lawrence" if you want
I am a very enthusiatic bass angler from South Africa.
I live for fishing and the outdoors. Just thought I'd join to see what the fishing community in Canada is like, since I'm dreaming of making Canada my home someday (hopefully sooner rather than later). And who knows, maybe I could make a few friends here!
Cheers

Thanks for the welcomes everyone!
I will post some pics of my fishing experiences shortly.
Well, I don't think the techniques we use to catch bass will be much different from what you guys do in Canada.
Personallly, my go to baits are Senkos, flukes and Jerkbaits. I like fishing Senkos weightless and my flukes on a light mojo rig.
My favourite jerkbait is the Rapala X-Rap hands down.
Many of our dams (reservoirs, we don't have many natural lakes) are very weedy and some have lots of standing timber, so we also spend alot of time pitching and flipping brush hogs and other creature baits.
I suppose we are fortunate in that we can fish pretty much year round. Our winter temperatures very seldom drop below -3 Celsius or so. Even then the afternoon temperatures are usually between 15 and 19 with some colder days inbetween. Our lakes never freeze over, heck the worst that could happen is a thin layer of ice on your dog's water bowl in the morning!
I think compared to Canada, we don't have lots of water to fish, but we do have a few very good bass lakes, especially in the almost tropical Kwazulu-Natal province to the South-east, and the warm bushveld to the North. The Cape province to the South-west has a few very good Smallmouth lakes, but smallmouth are very scarse throughout the rest of the country.
